Keeping things clean is very important to prevent food born illnesses. Washing fruit is important. You can take care of many problems by just running them under water. You can use white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to clean fruit. Start by spraying some white vinegar on the fruit and then a little hydrogen peroxide. After you spray the fruit with white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide rinse it in water and that will wash all the vinegar and peroxide off of the fruit. The vinegar and peroxide will not hurt you, it just tastes bad so washing it will get rid of that bad taste. This process gets rid of those harmful germs like salmonella and E. coli. You can also use this combination of chemicals to clean counter top surfaces. Just spray a little bit of both chemicals on the counter top and wait about 10 seconds and the counter will be free of germs. Then just wipe the surface down and it's ready to go. Another benefit of this process is the cost. Both items will only cost you about $3.00. Make sure you buy new spray bottles don't use bottles that have previously had chemicals in them. With the hydrogen peroxide, you can use it full strength but with the vinegar it is best to dilute it using a 1-2 ratio. If you put 1 cup of vinegar in the bottle add 2 cups of water. Make sure you don't put the two chemicals in the same bottle. When mixed together in a bottle they make peracetic acid. Spraying them on individually is fine though. So this is a great cost effective way to keep your counters and fruit clean and germ free.
